Well, it has been nearly a week since The Power of Success event, when I spent the day with Rachel, Tony, Phil, and Molly – to name a few – and it has taken me this long to let the inspiration roll around in my head and feel ready to share some of my (many!) insights from the day.

If you don’t know what on earth I am talking about, I was lucky enough to attend The Power of Success last week. A one day conference where I listened to some of the top motivators, coaches, and speakers in the world light up the crowd educating and inspiring. People I had never heard of before (and a couple who I already adore) took the stage and changed my perspective, and my life. If I could pause life, Zach Morris style, I would have stopped time after each speaker and written 15 blog posts because my heart and mind were overflowing. As it was, I took 11 pages of notes over the day, and I still spent 95% of the day present and engaged, notebook closed, soaking it all in.

Today I’m going to share those insights because I think that these take-aways are beneficial to your financial journey and your quest to Reach for More!

Me and my super-friend Jo, ready to rock the day, Power of Success style!

First up…

Richard Dolan

I’ll be honest. I had never heard of this guy. He is a performance coach and an author, and he is big into the finance world. He was SO captivating on stage I wanted to cry because in his forty minutes he shared so much wisdom, AND he’s Canadian, which is pretty cool too!

The very first thing I wrote down was “grow rich in the things that matter” – and I feel like that is a life lesson for all of us. Richard talked about being externally rich but internally poor. What’s the point in having all the money and STUFF if you are miserable? He described what he called Financial Fuels – money (the physical money we have), wealth (the STUFF), and worth (the life you live and the power to choose). His focus was on building relationships and living a life you LOVE, not just building up cash Scrooge McDuck style!

Erin Skye Kelly

This lady is a powerhouse of energy and inspiration. She took the stage and made us laugh with her self-deprecating humour and, even better, made us THINK. Erin talked about the choices we make and the things we do. Some things feel good; some things don’t. Some things are good for us, and some things are not. The key to change and growth is to spend as much time as you can doing things that don’t feel good, but that are good FOR us.

Think about that for a minute.

Things that don’t feel good, but are good FOR us.

Running the first kilometer of the year.

Eating the kale.

Staying home of Saturday night rather than going out because it’s NOT IN THE BUDGET.

Read more about Erin here. (Try to find one of those choices that doesn’t FEEL good but IS good today!)

Molly Bloom

Next up, Molly Bloom. This woman’s story is in.cred.i.ble. Truly. If you aren’t familiar with Molly, she is the woman behind the 2017 movie Molly’s Game. I’ll admit that I hadn’t seen it when I watched her speak last week, but I can safely say based on the clips she showed and the story she told, it’s worth a watch!

She talked about the importance of four things in maintaining your mindset to do hard things:

  • train your mind through meditation
  • build your character
  • eat/drink/sleep/exercise properly
  • HOPE

Mindset, baby!

Phil Town

Holy damn.

This guy changed my life.

Phil is an investor, a speaker, and an author. The first thing I wrote down when he took the stage: It’s not about the money, it’s about what you know.

When we talk about investing, I know next to nothing. We have an investment guy, who I’m not super keen on, and I have NO idea what’s happening with our money. Probably not the best way to build wealth for my future, hey? I expected for this guy to talk and I’d sit and clap appropriately, but what could I take away from a guy talking about investing, when I don’t even understand the basics?

You guys! There are no words for how engaged I was. By the end of his talk, I was on the edge of my seat, my heart was pounding, and my brain was on FIRE because I was SO excited to learn and start applying his ideas to my own life.

I don’t want to give you investing advice, because like I said, I still don’t really understand it. And I definitely don’t want to start giving you ideas about how to deal with your money I don’t understand it yet. But here are some keywords that I took away:

  • gratitude
  • low risk, high return
  • understand what you are buying
  • get ready

I’m going to read Phil’s books Rule #1 and Payback Time and eventually take his course too. Expect to hear more of his name around here! If you are interested in making a lot of money from your investments and learning how to do it like the wealthiest people on the planet do, check his books out and then let me know what you think!

Gary John Bishop

Maybe you’ve seen his best-selling book on the shelves? It’s called Unfu*k Yourself, and it has been on my reading list all summer, but after watching him speak, I’ll be diving into it asap! Gary John Bishop brings a bad-boy, tough-love edge to the world of motivational speaking, but he does it with so much love and humour. I had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard. If you ever have the opportunity to see him speak, do it. Unless you don’t like swearing, in which case maybe stay home.

He addressed the crowd as leaders; in their workplaces, in the homes, in their communities. He told us to start treating what you SAY you are going to do as non-negotiable. Hold yourself to who you said you would be, even when you least feel like it.

Life gets hard. Making choices to Reach for your best life is difficult. But when you commit to it, stick to it, whatever IT is.

Roger Love

This was the one part of the day that didn’t speak to me AS loudly. But there’s no denying that this guy is THE top of his field. Roger Love is a voice coach to the number one singers and speakers in the world. He teaches people how to find their REAL voices and use them to influence others.

Until Next Time…

You guys… All of this learning happened before lunch! So I haven’t even shared the wisdom from Rachel & Tony yet! I’m going to save that for next time though because if you read all of this, I want you to process it. I want you to grab a new book. Phil Town’s Rule #1 if you are interested in investing. Or Gary John Bishop’s if you need a kick in the pants to start Reaching for More!
